Haunted Houses and Scavenger Hunts

Though most activites here are run by the student activities committee, there are other events that other groups on campus run. Two of them took place last night all over campus. First was the Mitchell Haunted House. Mitchell House is a dorm on campus that is for BA female students and every year as a group the put on a walk through haunted house. Last night they had their haunted house open for business. I helped out with make up which meant I knew most of what was going to happen, though I must admit that it was still a tad scary. My roomates and I walked through and in the first room one of my roomates lost it and hid her face the rest of the walk through. They jumped, screamed, and did all they could to make you jump out of your skin. They did a wonderful job at making it scary. Though for those like my roomate who are not big fans of haunted houses, there are other activites for you to enjoy. Such as the HUB scavenger hunt.

The campus here at Dean is seperated into different groupings, and each group will throw their own activities, though anyone on campus can join if they like to. Last night the HUB area held a scavenger hunt across campus. You had a list of what you had to find and you had to take a picture of one of your group members with whatever you had found on the list. I did not participate this year, but last year as a freshman I had participated. It was a lot of fun to run around campus with your friends and it really helps you to see how well you know the campus.as well. And like most competitions theres always a winner and usually some sort of prize or reward!

Dean has all sorts of activities to participate in. You just have to keep your eyes open. Its fun to get involved and participate. So next time your sitting around on a friday or saturday night ask around and look at the flyers hanging up in your hallways and attend something new. Get involved and have fun!

Racing Toilets (It's exactly as it sounds)

This past friday the Student Activities Committee had a stand alone event. A stand alone event meaning it doens't have a themed weekend, its just a single event that well, stands alone. This weekends stand alone event was racing toilets.
For those who come to the event just for fun, overlook the work that actually goes into the event. Therefore I would like to give you a brief summary of what we do to advertize and run the event.
  • As all events we start by planning out who will be running the events and what times. We also have people advertize for the events. Friday afternoon i helped table for the event. I sat at a table in the main campus building and i handed out flyers, candy, and verbally told people to come because it would be loads of fun. We also have slides on the plasmas displaying the information about the event.
  • That night I helped sign people in. For an event that can potentially be dangerous if abused, we have to have people sign and show their ID's to be sure that they are a valid studet and understand the danger that could potentially happen.
  • Next we get to these racing toilets themselves. They are an actual motorized toilet on wheels. There is a large blow up obsticle course which you race your friends around on this motorized toilet. From experience it may seem kinda lame, but those toilets fly. You go fast, bump into walls and your competitor, and its just a bunch of fun.

Events like these are run by student activities for students like you. Without the support of the Dean community there would be no need for us. So show your support while you have fun with your friends!

Hello!

Hello everyone, as you probably have assumed already my name is Rachel! Through this blog I'm going to share with you all sorts of fun knowledge about what goes on here at Dean as a student. As explained in my bio I am a member of the Student Activities Committee. Some of you may be wondering what exactly does that mean? Well here at Dean we like to provide all sorts of activities on weekends to entertain all of the students who stay on the weekends. We have movies, dances, karaoke, trivia, hypnotists, carnivals, comedians, trips off campus, racing toilets and so much more!  As a part of the Student Activity Committee I help to organize, plan, run and set up at events. Throughout the year I'm going to be sharing what goes on at these events and how we plan them!

Last night we had a karaoke and trivia night. The past two club meeting we had discussed what we wanted to do at this event. We decided on two trivia rounds, karaoke and free food(who doesn't love free food?!?)! We started by setting up lights and the equipment, and then everyone started to arrive. We had the free food (mozzarella sticks and onion rings and more!), all sorts of karaoke songs, and we had two categories of trivia played. There was pop culture trivia and Dean trivia. To keep things lively we switched from karaoke to trivia every 30 minutes. For those who won trivia there were gift cards to places such as Walmart, Chile's, Itunes, and more. The event started at 9 and it ended roughly around 11:30. It was a bunch of fun to hang out with all sorts of people and having a relaxing and safe Friday evening.

As a club we meet once a week to plan events such as these.  I can't wait to share the next event with you all!  Any questions feel free to comment!!
